It's important what you want from this PC to do.
More cores - lowest frequency of each core.
(For gaming and multimedia Core 2 duo or Core i5 on max possible freq. is best, for application (if they support multiple cores/treads) Quad core (i7, i9) is better)
More RAM than 4 GB - 64 bit OS or server OS. Otherwise you see just 3.25 GB and begin to feel strange Cool
(There is possiblity for drivers or 3rd party hardware issues with both 64 and server OS)

If you think about gaming or media my choise is:
Motherboard - Asus Maximus III Extreme
CPU - Core i5 670(3.46G,L2:4M, IGPU,rev.C2,73W)
Video: SAPPHIRE HD5870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE (Game Edition) (DX11 will be usefull at some time this year... i think)

i9 if price is not an issue would still be his best bet, as I'm *not* 100% sure if this is true, but the i9's are going to be clocked over 3ghz - 4odd as default. But don't hold me to that, it's just hear-say. Plus with the nice i5/7/9 they all have tubo boost what is handy for older programs what just use one/two cores.

RE: May Get a New PC!
What will you run on it to utilize 6 cores ?
You will pay 300 - 600% more if you buy i9 just becose it's newest one Big Grin
I don't think it's good idea to buy such overpriced unit to use it with same load as i5.
And OP asks for now ... not after 6 months or more - to have i9 on market.

lol, I guess. But such as someone myself will be buliding a new PC when it's out. I do an awful lot of level designing/creating in my spair time. So 6 cores will come in handy when I compile. Though, i5 can be better at times. Because the HT in the i7/9 can actually degrade performance on some things.

There is the rabbit hole Big Grin

If you use it for apps that support multy core/multy treads - it's definitly better to have more cores, if you use it for mass software, games, media & so on - it's better to have more pure frequency power on 2 cores.
