I was out of game by the time it was shut down. I've just got a couple question regarding stuff I can use for fanfic.
1) Who shut down the Matrix and why? My first guess would be the Machines.
1.2) Can it be assumed that the Machines are trying to restart the Matrix to keep producing energy? Wasn't the reason the Matrix was designed was because pods needed neural stimulation to live to harvest or something?
2) What is the status of Zion? Is this something that is open for speculation/redesign?
I'll watch the movies over for more information that I might want to use.
If you mean storyline-wise ending for the game closing, there was none. They stated they were gonna wrap up the story before the end, but they didn't touch it once.
It was awful. There was no mentioning of the already butchered storyline. A few people did a collaboration for a fitting end (and possible continuation) that was well done.

Sadly this is true. But given it's SOE I'm not surprised. We just got shut down.
Indeed simply closed. No Machiens lsot control and Matrix crashed or anything like that... GOOD OLD SOE!

Well that kind of blows. I guess I'll just start writing then. We'll see how it goes. Maybe I'll end up coming up with something we can use story wise.
Some of us on Syntax had a big RP group up and we made this huge plan for how to end, unfortunately it never really happened. We had gotten in trouble with LESIG before (for apparently "ruining" their events) and there was some fear about SOE actually banning our station accounts if we did anything. A pity really...we worked really hard.

Nothing wrong with leaving it open-ended. The guy who had worked on the storyline for the last X years had already gone anyway. I'd rather leave it up to the imagination/emus/outlines then a community rep like Virrago to have come up with some half arsed attempt to tie it all together in the last couple of weeks.

Happened to me! On multiple accounts. And yet I was still at the end.
Also: the last months were completely non-cannon, like halloween, pretty much.
